Oil analysis

The analysis of the transformer oil is a proven method for assessing the condition of a transformer.

Partial discharges, overheating, ageing and other fault patterns can be detected by means of an oil analysis.

Our services

In cooperation with partners (accredited laboratories) we offer oil analysis as a service. We put together the most suitable analysis package for each individual case.

Each assignment includes the following four steps: sampling, oil analysis, evaluation and recommendations (independent advice).

For the oil analysis, the following three positions are usually called for:

Position 1:  Quantitative analysis of gases dissolved in the oil.

Detection of nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, ethane, ethene, ethyne, propane and propene

Position 2: Ageing tests

Detection of water content according to Karl Fischer, chromaticity, acidity, purity, breakdown voltage, dielectric dissipation factor, relative permittivity at 90 °C, insulation resistance, determination of phenolic inhibitor content

Position 3: Determination of furfurol and related compounds

Detection of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfurol (5HMF), 2-furfuryl alcohol (2FOL), 2-furfurol (2 FAL), 2-acetylfuran (2ACF), 5-methyl-2-furfurol (5MEF)

Your advantages:

  • Sampling and oil analysis

  • Neutral and independent data evaluation and recommendation

  • Comprehensive data evaluation according to all valid standards incl. trend analysis
